Why the Åland sofa takes eight weeks

Week one and two: the frame. Oak is cut, joined and left to acclimatise — wood moves, and a frame assembled too quickly will creak within a year.

Weeks three to five: the bouclé is woven in Belgium to order, in the exact colourway you chose. Weaving to order means no fabric inventory, which means no fabric landfill.

Weeks six to eight: upholstery, feather-filling by hand, and a 48-hour rest period during which cushions are beaten, sat on, and beaten again. Then one van, one delivery date, one sofa that took its time.
